Dr. Bill

Dr. Bill Kottemann

Dr. Bill Kottemann was born in Iowa City, Iowa, but has lived in Orono for nearly 40 years. His father, an orthodontist himself, inspired Dr. Bill to follow in his footsteps. He attended the University of Iowa as a pre-med, before entering their School of Dentistry after only two years of undergraduate work.

He attended the University of Minnesota for his orthodontic degree and Master’s degree in 1978. Dr. Bill became a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1989.

Dr. Kraig Kottemann

Dr. Kraig Kottemann has seen first-hand the amazing effects that orthodontic treatment has on the lives of patients throughout his life. Dr. Kraig attended the University of Notre Dame, where he earned a double Bachelor's degree in Biology and Art Studio.

He then attended the University of Arizona School of Dentistry for his Doctorate of Dental Medicine, and completed his formal education at the University of Minnesota, receiving his Master of Science degree and Certificate in Orthodontics.

Dr. Scott

Dr. Scott Kottemann

Dr. Scott Kottemann has always been drawn to orthodontics. Before he was even old enough to drive a car, he loved to spend time in the lab making retainers and other orthodontic appliances for the family practice.

Dr. Scott graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Notre Dame where he studied biology before heading to the University of Michigan, where he was inducted into the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society, was chosen to receive a grant to research cell signaling, was elected a council member, and graduated second in his class.

Dr. Alisha Holt

Dr. Alisha Holt knew she wanted to be an orthodontist from the day she got her braces off. The confidence and happiness her smile brought her made her realize she wanted to bring that feeling to others too! Dr. Alisha began her higher education at Gustavus Adolphus College, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology.

She continued her dental and orthodontic education at the University of Minnesota, earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree, Masters of Science, and Certificate in Orthodontics. Dr. Holt recently achieved Board Certification with the American Board of Orthodontics.

Plymouth Braces

When it comes to straightening teeth, traditional braces are one of the most efficient tools we have. Metal or ceramic brackets are attached to the teeth, then connected by wires and tiny rubber bands or elastics. Through regular adjustments, these components apply gentle pressure that will gradually move the teeth into the desired positions.

Plymouth braces are an excellent choice for correcting oral issues that range from simple to complex. Because they sometimes work faster at closing gaps and aligning teeth than other options might, overall treatment time may be slightly reduced. In addition, braces don’t require some of the more complicated technology or expensive equipment that newer treatments can, making them a cost-effective option for patients on a budget.

Plymouth Invisalign

Instead of brackets and bands, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear, removable aligners to gradually move the teeth into alignment. These aligners are very popular with our teen and adult patients, and Invisalign is currently the top alternative to traditional braces.

Invisalign aligners are made of a comfortable plastic material that is virtually invisible. The trays are designed to fit snugly over the patient’s teeth, and are generally switched out every 1-2 weeks for the next in the series. This keeps teeth moving in the right direction. Aligners must be worn 20-22 hours per day throughout treatment in order for them to do their job. Neglecting to wear the aligners as directed can have a negative impact on the end results and also add time to the orthodontic process.

Invisalign tends to be most effective when used to correct many of the most common orthodontic issues. For certain complex cases, Invisalign may not be a viable option. A consultation with Kottemann Orthodontics will be able to help determine your eligibility for Invisalign.
